icelandic sheepThe Icelandic sheep is one of the oldest pure races of sheep in the world.  With his 1100 years of history, race Icelander was characterized with the passing of years by its use at three ends, the meat, the wool, and the milk. 

The lean meat combined with a delicious savour is very appraisal and is regarded as a meat of fine gourmet.

The fiber named fibre LOPI in Iceland, is recognized for the clothes industry hot clothing, due to wool coming from a double fleece.  Milk produce famous cheeses and yoghourts. -

The Icelandic is part of the average within races of sheep, with anicelandic sheep average weight of 130-160 pounds for the ewe and from 180-220 pounds for the ram. The prolificity is very good with an average of 175-220%. Triplets are not rare and several ewes have the capacity to occupy themselves some without assistance. The lambs are relatively small at the birth with an average of 6-9 pounds for twins. The lambs are vigorous in spite of a short period of gestation of 142-145 days which is shorter than the average of the races. -

icelandic sheepThe aspect most attractive for the eye is the many variations of colors and of patterns. The Icelander offers a combination of color/pattern varying for the black, white, brown, gray, cream-coloured, gray pale, chocolate, caramel, dark gray, money, black chocolate, black jet and others.

The ewe and the ram can have horns or not.
